Visitors to New Zealand |
| |
| |
Some people need a visa to enter New Zealand, and some don't. If you are
not from a visa-free country, you will need to apply for a visitor visa before
you come to New Zealand. |
| |
| |
Requirements |
| |
| |
When you apply for a visitor visa, we want to know that : |
| |
| |
you are in good health |
| |
you are of good character; and |
| |
the visa you are applying for matches your intentions for your visit. |
| |
| |
Your passport |
| |
| |
You will have to show us your passport. This must be valid for at least three
months past the date you are to leave New Zealand. |
| |
| |
Proof that you plan to leave New Zealand |
| |
| |
You will need to show us proof that you have plans and the means to leave
within the period of your permit. Suitable proof may include: |
| |
| |
actual travel tickets (confirmed or open-dated) out of New Zealand to a
country which you have the right to enter; or |
| |
written confirmation from an airline or travel agency that onward travel
has been booked and paid for. |
| |
| |
Evidence of funds |
| |
| |
You will also need to show us proof that you have enough money to support
yourself during your stay. This means you have a minimum of: |
| |
| |
NZ$1000 per person per month of the visit, or |
| |
NZ$400 per person per month if accommodation has already been paid
for – we will require proof of prepayment, such as hotel prepaid
vouchers |
| |
| |
Acceptable evidence of sufficient funds can be demonstrated in the form of: |
| |
| |
cash |
| |
travellers' cheques |
| |
bank drafts |
| |
recognised credit cards with sufficient credit available – it is
recommended that visitors have an up-to-date credit card statement |
| |
| |
Other acceptable evidence is a declaration by a New Zealand sponsor that they
will pay for your accommodation and maintenance. See the Sponsorship Form
for Visiting New Zealand (INZ1025) PDF. |

Who cannot get a visa ? |
| |
| |
As well as people who don't meet the basic requirements listed above, some
people who have committed serious crimes will not be allowed into New
Zealand at all. Section 7(1) of the Immigration Act outlines what disqualifies an
applicant in these terms. |
| |
| |
If your application is incomplete when you lodge it, you submit false information
or you don't meet our requirements we may refuse or deny your application |
| |
| |
How long can I stay? |
| |
| |
The maximum stay under a visitor visa is nine months. As visa-free conditions
only last for three months (or six if you are from the United Kingdom), you will
need a visa for any longer stay. |
| |
| |
We usually only allow visitors to stay for nine months in an 18-month period. To
work this out, we look at the last day that you intend to be in New Zealand (eg 1
July 2009), and count back 18 months from there (eg 1 January 2008). When
you apply for a visa or permit in one of our branches, we make sure that in that
18-month period (eg 1 January 2008 – 1 July 2009) you will not be spending
more than nine months in New Zealand. |
| |
| |
Arriving at the border visa-free |
| |
| |
If you are a visa-free visitor you apply for a permit at the border by filling in your
arrival card. You will be allowed to stay for three months (or six months if from
the United Kingdom) on this visit, and no more than six months in any 12-month
period. So, we will look at what date your three-month visit (or six-month visit) will
end (eg 1 July 2009), and count back 12 months from there (eg 1 July 2008). We
then make sure that in that 12-month period (eg 1 July 2008 – 1 July 2009) you
will not be spending more than six months in New Zealand. |
| |
| |
If you decide while you are in New Zealand you wish to stay longer, you should
contact us. |
| |
| |
What about my family ? |
| |
| |
Your application can cover your partner, and any dependent children up to the
age of 19. Children over 20, and non-dependants, will need to make their own
application. |
| |
| |
Special cases |
| |
| |
There are other requirements for people who visit under one of our special visitor
categories. |
| |
| |
We may ask some applicants to pay a bond, or offer them a limited purpose visa. |
| |
| |
Medical insurance |
| |
| |
We recommend that you have comprehensive medical insurance for the duration
of your visit. If you are from the United Kingdom or Australia, you will get the
same immediate medical coverage as a New Zealand citizen or resident, thanks
to our Reciprocal Health Agreements. |
| |
| |
After you arrive |
| |
| |
If you are granted a visitor’s permit you need to meet certain conditions during
your stay: |
| |
| |
You may not work while you are in New Zealand (unless you apply for
and are granted a work permit). |
| |
You may not study for more than three months while you are in New
Zealand (unless you apply for and are granted a student permit). |
| |
You must keep within New Zealand’s laws |
| |
You must only stay in New Zealand for the time allowed by your permit. |
| |
| |
If you break any of these conditions we may require you to leave the country
immediately. |
| |
| |
How to apply |
| |
| |
Once you are familiar with our rules and requirements, you can begin the
process of applying. |

Canada Tourist Visa |
| |
| |
A Canadian temporary resident visa, often referred to as a tourist visa or visitor visa for Canada is a temporary Canadian immigration option allowing tourists to visit Canada for a maximum of six months. |
| |
| |
A travel visa of this kind is required by nationals of some countries when visiting the country. |
| |
| |
In Canada, visit visas of this kind are not intended as a route to settlement and do not offer permanent residence or the opportunity to apply for Canadian citizenship. |
| |
| |
Visiting visas are issued on the understanding that you will not be permitted to work, and that you will depart on or before the expiry of your tourist visa. |
| |

| |
| |
Benefits |
| |
| |
Applying for a Canadian visit visa is the appropriate method if you wish to enter the country purely for the purpose of visiting. |
| |
| |
Visitor visas is the popular route for over 35 million visitors and students each year and will allow you to stay for a period of up to six months. |
| |
| |
Applications for visit visas can be submitted for one of three categories. |
| |
| |
Single entry Canada Visitor Visa |
| |
| |
This category allows you to visit Canada once for the duration of no more than six months. |
| |
| |
However, once in the country you can apply for a Canadian visa extension so long as you do so no later than 30 days before the expiry of the original document. |
| |
| |
Multiple Entry Canada Visitor Visa |
| |
| |
Under this category, you may enter and depart on several occasions during the validity of the Canadian travel visa. |
| |
| |
In this case, you will need to specify the length of time you require. The length of time subsequently awarded will be decided by an issuing case officer. |
| |
| |
Transit Canada Visa |
| |
| |
The third category is intended for people entering the country en route to another destination who will be spending no longer than 48 hours in the country. |
| |
| |
Eligibility Criteria |
| |
| |
In order to meet the eligibility requirements for a visiting visa, you will need to demonstrate that you: |
| |
| |
Possess sufficient funds to support you and your family for the duration of your visit. |
| |

| |

| |
| |
Working and studying in Canada |
| |
| |
Whilst in the country on any of the above tourist visas it is not permitted to undertake employment. # |
| |
| |
If you wish to work during your time in the country, you will need an accompanying Canadian work permit. You may study so long as the course is short term and will not exceed the six months expiry date. |
| |
| |
Spouses and Dependants |
| |
| |
Spouse immigration or fiance immigration are not specifically provided for under this route and your spouse, common law partner and dependent children over 18 years of age will need to apply for their own visiting visas and meet the appropriate criteria. |

UK Tourist Visa |
| |
| |
A UK visit visa allows a person to travel and stay in the UK for up to six months. It also covers people coming to the UK for business trips or medical treatment and those passing through the UK. |
| |
| |
A Business Visitor Visa is often the best temporary immigration route for business people who wish to attend the UK for short trips. As long as they are not entering into any type of work and will only be attending meetings, conferences or auditing work they are allowed to stay for up to six months. |
| |
| |
This is a very swift and effective type of visa which allows people to enter the UK without the need for the more formal requirements of other immigration routes, such as those involved in a Work Permit application, to be approved. |
| |
| |
A Business Visitor Visa can be granted for a single entry or for multiple entries with a validity of two years. This way a person does not require constant renewals every time they wish to travel to the UK on business. Artists who are not performing can also use this visa to enter the UK if they wish to attend interviews or promote a piece of work such as a movie or a book without needing to apply for any further permits to work. |
| |
| |
Benefits |
| |
| |
The UK tourist visa lasts for up to two years if it is granted for multiple entries. A person can stay on a visitor visa for a maximum of six months except for medical visitors who can extend their leave to remain if required. As outlined above, the key benefit of a UK Business Visit Visa, or a visa for tourism is that the requirements on the part of the applicant are few. Unlike longer-term business visa, student visas or the Tier 1 visa, this short-term visa service allows its holder to enter the country freely and in the case of business people, to engage in a range of business activities without the more demanding requirements of other immigration services. |
| |
| |
Public Funding |
| |
| |
To be eligible for a UK visit visa you must be able to support and accommodate yourself without recourse to public funds. You must also intend to return home at the expiry of your UK travel visa. If a person has family settled in the UK an Entry Clearance Officer may question a person's intention to return home. For a UK visit visa to be granted it is important to note that it is not just your Immigration history that will be taken into account but that of your family. |
| |
| |
Visit Visas for Medical Purposes |
| |
| |
Medical Visitor visas are often issued to individuals who wish to attend the UK for medical treatment. In the past, the UK was a highly respected destination for medical Visitors. From IVF to plastic surgery it was accepted that the United Kingdom was a leader in these fields. |
| |
| |
Today, fewer people attend the UK for medical treatment however, it is still important to note that a Medical Visitor visa can only be granted in certain cases. For a visa to be granted a person must not have a terminal illness and the treatment concerned must be private. |
| |
| |
A medical visa is granted for six months at a time and is renewable for the duration of the treatment. Once again the grant can either be for a single entry, or for multiple entries for those people who wish to continue their treatment as an outpatient, only flying into the UK for appointments. |
